Andrés Monzón-Aguirre
Director
Andrés Monzón is a visual artist born in Medellin. Besides organizing curatorial projects that allow international artists to reside, work and exhibit in his native city, he constantly participates in the development of strategies that incorporate ceramics as a learning device (Maati Program). His multidisciplinary artistic practice has been primarily concerned with the construction of an identity after exile. Through object and image making, he explores Latin American iconography and the concept of collective memory. Monzón has received awards by the Prince Claus Fund (2013) and the city of Medellin (2014-2016) and has exhibited internationally in Europe, Asia and the Americas. His recent exhibitions include Here Beyond, Fosdick-Nelson Gallery and Sitting with Marta, Terra Cotta Building at Alfred University in 2019. Andrés Monzón received his BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 2019.
